Can Disk Defragment Speed Up PC?

Defragging Hard Disk is probably one of the old school techniques people use to speed up computers. When you purchase your computer, the shop keeper probably asked you to defrag your hard disk once a week.

Personally, I don't defrag my hard disk every week because I heard too much defragment is bad for a hard disk. But Do You Think Disk Defragment Will Speed Up Your Computer?

Of course it does. Here's why.

When your computer stores new files and programs, it doesn't store it like you store books on your shelves. It just throw files into spaces which are empty. If you haven't defrag your hard disk before, your files and programs are probably scattering all around your hard disk. Defragment not only help organizing these files, it places system files to the fastest part, prevent file fragmentation and much more.

I've personally tried it on a PC that was never defragged for months. After hours of disk defragment, it is running much faster. If you don't like to wait for hours, just do it before you sleep. So, how to do Disk Defragment?

Well, there's a free tool provided with Windows called the 'Disk Defragmenter' and you can find it at Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter. Analyze and start Defragment.

However, I'm not a fan of Windows' Disk Defragmenter. I prefer a free software you can get on Download.com. It is called Auslogics Disk Defrag. It's powerful, fast and easy to use. Enjoy!
